You and Me goin' fishin' in the Park

We stopped at a playground for lunch again today. Afterwards we went exploring and found a creek nearby. Of course, we all wanted to wade in it. But it was extremely cold—way too cold to wade in, or even dangle your feet in. And the current was so strong it could sweep us off our feet and down the river. As we stood at the water’s edge, we saw some trout swim by. So we decided we could do a little fishing. We grabbed our fishing poles and headed down to the river. I tried to cast my fishing pole, but it got caught in a tree. I struggled to untangle it, and casted again. And it got caught in the tree…again. I looked over and saw Ruthie was having the exact same trouble as me. Steven was casting smoothly and he laughed at our failing attempts.  He said he was the best fisherman in our family, and we could learn how to fish from him. After a while, Ruthie and I finally got the hang of it and were casting our lines nicely into the rushing creek.

Then Steven decided he wanted to fish on the other side of the creek. So he pulled up his pants and waded over to the other side, barely making it and almost getting swept off his feet and freezing with cold. Once on the other side, he threw his line out and it flew across the creek, getting caught into my line. So I leaned out and untangled it. Steven casted it out again. This time, it soared across the creek, over our heads, and into the top of a tree, where it wound around and around a branch. It was way too high for us to reach. We couldn’t help laughing at Steven.  So much for being the “best fisherman” in the family J. A tall, friendly man came along and helped us untangle Steven’s fishing line. Katie Marie really wanted to catch a fish, so when she wasn’t looking, we attached a fake plastic fish to her line. When she reeled in later, she was excited to see a blue fish attached to her line. She pulled it up, looked at the fish and said disappointedly; “Hey! That’s a pretend fish! I wanted to catch a real fish!”
